AIRFORCE AUTUMN
Inspiration for Cottonfield’s Autumn 2011 collection comes from life on an air base. The style is masculin with clear references to a vintage military look. A universe has been constructed around a guy’s boyhood dreams: a cool, nonchalant attitude taken directly from the film Top Gun. The collection’s expression reflects Cottonfield values: a raw heritage look wit focus on quality and details.
The campaign for this collection was developed in conjunction with fashion editor Frederik Andersen fro the Danish gentleman’s magazine Euroman, and fashion photographer Franne Voigt. Calle Strand, the Swedish model who was also part of Cottonfield’s jubilee campaign, and Danish top model Tobias Sørensen are the faces for the collection. An air base near Malaga in Spain is the backdrop.
To underscore the theme of the collection, Franne Voigt took authentic photos of life on the air base, including shots of the proprietor and his wife, pilots, vintage planes and the rough natural surroundings. Cottonfield’s art director Karin Pihl Madsen achieved a perfect blend of atmosphere and image shots in the catalogue.
“We are incredibly proud to be able to launch such a sharp collection for the coming autumn, one that combines Cottonfield classics with unique detailing, select materials and a strong image. The collection and the campaign boldly define what Cottonfield is, and onehundred percent of what Cottonfield stands for,” says head designer Gitter Verner.
Outerwear is the focal point: an ultra-cool leather aviator jacket with lamb-fleece collar, a retro parka, a tailored trenchcoat, a bold-blue down jacket and a lightweight down jacket for keeping warm on chilly autumn days. Destroyed denim is also in the spotlight, with familiar fits now in a new range of wash finishes.
New interpretations of Cottonfield’s signature chinos offer a tweed look and a soft twill version. Cargo pants return in a new rip-stop fabric.
Cottonfield introduces classic checked shirts in the season’s fresh colour combinations and work shirts with that genuine laid-back vintage look.
The collection has a distinct American sporty feeling with polo, sweat and rugby shirts featuring air base prints. Knits remain a vital factor and this collection offers knits with fine detailing such as shawl collars, elbow patches, bold patterning and clean cardigans with wooden buttons.
The colour palette consists of warm tones of reddishbrown, sun yellow and orange to provide perfect complements to army green, dusty blue-grey and off-white. A shade of clear blue delivers the clean Scandinavian look.
As a follow-up to the extremely popular jubilee collection launched in Spring 2011, the Autumn collection also offers 15 heritage styles featuring inspiration gathered from the Cottonfield design archive covering the past 25 years.
Cool accessories are also an integral part of the collection: scarves in checks or bold colours, a canvas bag with leather detailing, and underwear in organic cotton.
